COMPANY HISTORY

1999 saw the start of the Bangalore Information System On Network (BISON) – the largest GIS project in India being carried out for the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. It involved the large scale mapping of the organisation's entire asset and its storage into a dedicated spatial database. The project, financed under the Indo-French Protocol, was awarded to a consortium comprising of Nantes based Groupe SCE France and IRAM Consultants from Delhi.

SCE Creocean India Pvt. Ltd. was incorporated in 2001. Starting with a humble workforce of just two people, the first task was the daily management of the BISON project for the BWSSB.

After the successful completion of this project in November 2002, Groupe SCE, through its subsidiary in Bangalore, bagged the 4.5 million Euro Metropolitan Spatial Data Infrastructure (MSDI) project for the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). A string of firsts, this project led to the creation of the city's first official and complete basemap, a digital landuse database, a land occupation mode based on the CORINE Landcover System – an international standard and finally the revision of the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP).

For the MSDI project, Groupe SCE joined forces with a number of partners including the APUR and the IAURIF. SCE Creocean India, with a strength of approximately fifty, played a key role in every step – right from data collection and integration to its analysis. This data formed the backbone for the in-house team of local and international urban planners and architects for the revision of the city's CDP.

Strong from the experiences of the two biggest GIS projects in India, SCE Creocean India had proven to its parent group that it had what it takes to carry out projects of this magnitude to the complete satisfaction of its clients. Groupe SCE showed its support in 2005 by deciding to make the Indian subsidiary a permanent structure. A sister Groupe FIT, also based in Nantes, decided on investing in the Indian company Groupe SCE India Pvt Ltd.

A certain amount of restructuring later, the Indian company emerged as a subsidiary of both Groupe SCE and Groupe FIT. To reflect these changes, its name was also modified from SCE Creocean India Pvt Ltd. to Groupe SCE India Pvt Ltd.

Almost immediately, the newly christened company was awarded the BDParcellaire project that involved the georeferencing, rubbersheeting and mosaicing of a portion of France's cadastre for the Institut Géographique National (IGN).

With an employee strength of 125 people, today Groupe SCE India handles a wide range of Indian and European projects in the fields of GIS.
